Beverages for socialising are usually uncomplicated, with easily approachable flavours that don’t necessarily need to be accompanied by food. They also include beverages that suit a party atmosphere.

When pairing hot and spicy food with alcoholic beverages, beer is usually the best bet. A fresh, pale and relatively light beer works particularly well. If you opt for wine, you should also choose a light and crisp option to offset the spicy food, or maybe even something a little on the sweet side.

Dark chocolate has a fairly strong flavour that goes best with a full-bodied beer or a rich – and usually sweet – wine. White chocolate has a more delicate flavour, and is therefore better paired with very mild white dessert wines.

Grilling gives food rich aromas of fire and smoke. Your beverage should be similarly full-bodied, but can also be relatively smooth.
