Storage of flammable liquids in shop facilities

The fire risks in shop facilities has been examined.
Tukes has published on 31 March 2015 instructions for storing flammable liquids in shop facilities. The instructions concerned alcoholic beverages in plastic bottles with over 20 percent by volume stored in shop facilities. Additional protective measures were required for such beverages, e.g. fireproof cabinets.

Together with VTT, Alko has investigated the fire risks in shop facilities. As a result it has been found out that alcohol beverages don’t particularly create fire risks. The retail sale packages of alcoholic beverages can be compared with e.g. the fire loads in the grocery stores. Therefore the additional protective measures instructed by Tukes are not needed.
