Accessibility Statement for Alko.fi

This statement applies to the alko.fi online store. At Alko, we are committed to developing our digital services to ensure they are accessible to all our customers.

The statement is based on an evaluation conducted in January 2024 by an external expert organization to assess whether the online service meets the Level AA requirements of the WCAG 2.2 standard.

Accessibility Status of the Digital Service

The alko.fi online store partially meets the Level A and AA accessibility criteria required by law (WCAG 2.1). There are accessibility issues on the alko.fi website, which are described in more detail below.

We aim to address the identified issues during 2025.

Content or Functions with Accessibility Issues

Navigation

Criteria related to user movement within the site and its various sections:

  • A skip link is missing from some pages, such as the homepage. (WCAG 2.4.1)
  • Some pages on the site lack clear titles. (WCAG 2.4.2)
  • The focus order is sometimes illogical, such as on the checkout page. (WCAG 2.4.3)
  • The purpose of some links is not clear from the link text or surrounding context. (WCAG 2.4.4)
  • The keyboard focus indicator is sometimes entirely missing. For example, the "Feedback" button in the lower right corner. (WCAG 2.4.7)
  • A focusable element may sometimes be hidden beneath a floating element. (WCAG 2.4.11)
  • Assistive features are located in different places on the alko.fi homepage and in the online store. (WCAG 3.2.6)

Structure

Criteria related to the semantic and visual structure of content:

  • Not all informative images and visually presented information have text alternatives. (WCAG 1.1.1)
  • Not all decorative images and icons are marked as decorative. (WCAG 1.1.1)
  • In some parts of the content, the presentation and the programmatic structure do not match. (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • Visually hidden content is not always properly hidden from assistive technologies. (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • Some navigation elements are not correctly marked. (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • Not all headings are programmatically marked as headings, and heading levels do not always reflect the visual hierarchy, for example on product pages. (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • Some service links, such as those in the "Nearest stores" list, are difficult to distinguish as links based on color alone. (WCAG 1.4.1)
  • In several user interface texts and elements, the contrast ratio between text and background is insufficient, such as on product cards or in the shopping cart. (WCAG 1.4.3, WCAG 1.4.11)
  • Some content, such as product cards, becomes hidden when text spacing or scaling is adjusted. (WCAG 1.4.12)
  • Content that opens on hover cannot be dismissed without moving the pointer, for example, in the language menu in the header. (WCAG 1.4.13)
  • Some elements have incorrect roles and attributes, making them unclear for assistive technology users. For example, the "Search" button on the homepage. (WCAG 4.1.2)

Form Elements

Criteria related to inputs, forms, and their accessibility:

  • Activating form elements on the site does not always work consistently using a keyboard. For example, when selecting a payment method at checkout. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • The keyboard focus can become trapped in navigation submenus. (WCAG 2.1.2)
  • Some pages have time limits imposed by the content. (WCAG 2.2.1)
  • Some form fields on the site lack persistent labels, such as search fields. (WCAG 3.3.2, WCAG 2.4.6)
  • The page reloads when the value is changed for example in the shopping cart. (WCAG 3.2.2)
  • Some forms on the site have error messages that are not automatically read without moving the focus. The error messages are also not programmatically associated with the erroneous fields. For example, the "Pay now" button at checkout. (WCAG 3.3.1, 4.1.3)

The website contains content that is not subject to the requirements of the legislation. Such content includes:

  • Content published by third parties that has not been produced, funded, or supervised by the service provider

  • The application’s content does not rotate to landscape mode according to the device’s orientation. (WCAG 1.3.4)
  • There are headings in the application that are not programmatically marked as headings, e.g., “New Arrivals.” (WCAG 2.4.6)
